What can spoil the joy of eating good food? Canker Sores

Canker sores in the mouth look like painful whitish blisters, but they are actually small ulcers that can be found in the soft tissues of the mouth. They are quite painful and look a lot like herpes.

What causes Canker Sores?

They occur when there is a decrease in immune defences, but they can also occur after a trauma in the mouth, for instance if you bite or hurt yourself or get burned. They sometimes appear after a dental treatment, precisely where anesthesia was given or where a cotton roll rested. This mucosal weakness means that the slightest injury results in the development of these painful blisters. Stress factors or certain food habits can also influence their appearance in your mouth. Canker sores are not contagious.

Remedies:

In truth there are few remedies and often a person waits until they pass. However, they can last a long time, especially in the weakest people, such as the elderly or very young children.

1/The do-it-yourself treatment is with a gel, which may provide relief but is short-lived.

2/Laser treatment on the other hand immediately removes the pain and rapidly reverses the lesion. The laser application we use in Studio Moll takes only a few seconds and is 100% effective. The laser is analgesic and decontaminates the lesion. For this reason it resolves immediately, removing the pain and accelerating definite healing.

Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis

Anyone who regularly suffers from episodes of multiple Canker Sores suffers from Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS), which can be caused by a vitamin deficiency and a lack of iron, folic acid and vitamin B12. We see this mostly in children and the elderly, but pregnant and menopausal women can also develop these episodes.

Therapy with dietary supplements containing vitamins & minerals would be indicated to address the deficiencies that cause these extremely painful and debilitating manifestations. It is strongly advised to take these vitamins and food supplements for a long period of time to prevent relapse.

Very often Canker sores are mistakenly identified as Herpes. But there are important differences. How can they be distinguished from herpes? The location: Canker sores are found rather on the soft mucous membrane of the mouth and manifest as many small groups of blisters. Herpes manifests itself as solitary blisters, especially on the gums and the back of the tongue.

Herpes in the mouth

Herpes is also very contagious. For this reason, it is advisable to avoid kissing or other intimate mouth contact. It has not been proven that herpes is transmitted via the common use of glasses, cutlery, or small brushes, but nonetheless precautions are advised and sharing is not advised. Herpes can be found in the mouth but also on the surrounding skin, lips or near the nose. It manifests in the mouth as solitary blisters/ulcers especially on the gums and the back and tip of the tongue. Seniors with shingles also often have the manifestations in the mouth.

Anti-Herpes Remedies

1/ Pharmacological with medical plasters or antiviral creams on the lips or around the mouth.

2/ In the mouth, the gel treatment does not work and the cream also disperses quickly, so the only alternative option is, just like for Canker sores, the Laser treatment with the Er,CR:YSGG-Laser, which removes the pain and speeds up its path with a rapid regression. Studio Moll is very happy to be able to offer this quick solution to its patients. It is always a big relief to have removed the pain which can be intolerable for both Canker sores and Herpes.

Unfortunately, the virus remains in circulation and could reappear in the future, as is well known. We have found however that Laser treatment causes the frequency of active Herpes episodes to decrease considerably.
