WRINKLES?!? What else is new…
Using lasers in my Dental Clinic, to work on hard and soft tissues in the mouth, I have often received the request: “Oh Doctor Moll, can you remove my barcode wrinkles with the laser?? I cannot stand them.”
“No, not with the Laser, but with fillers I sure can!!!
It is true that barcode wrinkles appear in nearly everyone regardless of whether you smoke or not. And even though I am the kind of woman who agrees with Anna Magnani who said: “Don’t you touch my wrinkles! It took me a life to get them”, I must admit that when I see the results of hyaluronic acid fillers on a face I am marvelled about the sublime effect. So for 10 years or so at Studio Moll we have been doing rejuvenating treatments with fillers.
I like to begin by discussing your concerns and goals, and especially point out what results we can achieve. I really do not like to exaggerate. Some patients want more and more, but I will advise against this, remembering that less is more, and enough is enough. Even though the risks associated with dermal fillers are minimal, as always you need to fully disclose your medical history prior to treatment during your consultation.
Some more information on the procedures:
1/What are these injectable dermal Fillers?
At Studio Moll we use Hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It is a gel-like substance that is injected beneath the skin and helps to maintain the skin’s volume and provides deep hydration. It actually attracts water, so I will ask you to drink more for several days after treatment and abstain from sport for a few days.
2/How can Fillers enhance my appearance?
A/They smooth out lines around nose and mouth. A.K.A. marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses, removing the sad mouth expression, pushing up the downward lip angles.
B/Enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks, straighten out nose depression by eye glasses and fill out nasolabial folds
C/Diminish vertical “barcode” lip lines
D/Recontour & enhance the lips
E/Smooth out a chin crease
F/Improve symmetry among facial features
3/Is it a painful treatment?
Not really. Just before, I clean the area and I will apply a topical anaesthetic to numb the skin prior to injection. Many filler products also contain lidocaine, a mild anaesthetic, which is intended to help minimize discomfort during and after your treatment.
4/What are the effects?
Depending on the product and the areas treated, you should notice results immediately after receiving filler injections. Some patients experience mild bruising and swelling, but these are temporary and should subside over the days following treatment. You will be able to go back to your normal activities right after treatment, but I will ask you to take the day off from exercise or other strenuous activity. And to not sleep on your tummy crushing your face. The next morning you will see the amazing freshness and the glow it has given you overnight.
5/How long will the results last?
The results with HA are temporary, lasting 6 to 12 months or longer, before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles. It depends on the product, the area of treatment, and the patient. Generally speaking, the denser the product is and the more deeply it is injected, the longer it will last, although this is not a hard and fast rule. To maintain your results, you can repeat the treatment, noting that the intervals become longer with time. Some of the result will always stay. Injections to the lips will wear out a little faster than those to the nasolabial folds. Over time we notice an effective thickening of the skin which had previously lost its rigor and flexibility.
It is wonderful to create a beautiful smile, which for me is the most important and absolute top. Your smile is like an amazing gate to a great villa. But when you restore the walls of the villa too, it becomes like the finishing touch that everybody loves.
