November 8, 9 and 10, 2021
The Via Francigena (Road that comes from France) or in medieval times Via Roma Francigena ( the road to Rome from France) was an important road and pilgrimage route for those wishing to visit the holy land and tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul.
It is a 1,000-year-old route and 1,056 Miles (1,700 km) long and takes about 98 days to walk to whole route which starts at the Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent, England goes through France, Switzerland, to Rome and finally Apulia where there were ports of embarkation for the Holy Land.
In Italy, the Via Francigena crosses 6 Italian regions: Valle d’Aosta, Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Lazio.
We will do a two- part series. The first one outlined here in November 2021 and the second part in March 2022 from Siena to Radicofani.
Although we are doing a small part of it, with our guide we will feel and appreciate the journey and importance as we walk and are educated along the way.
