To be, or not to be …whole, that is the question

“To be, or not to be …whole, that is the question: Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer implant surgery, Or to take arms and patience using Invisalign to close the interdental gaps & spaces”

In good old William’s days there was of course not much Dentistry, let alone anything near today’s sophistication in Dental treatments. The mouth’s ailments and sufferings before losing teeth were just a normal part of life. So as Shakespeare described in his sonnets, “his lady love’s reeking breath” and penned, “parting is such sweet sorrow”. A famous line that could easily have referred to tooth loss.

Even though, like today, they hated the gaps in their mouths, tooth replacement wasn’t common back then. The creative tooth doctors or goldsmiths used goat’s, pig’s and baboon’s teeth —or even teeth taken from the recently deceased, to fill an un-aesthetic gap.

However, enough now, being it the #40th edition I wanted to give the Dental Monthly a theatrical tone with some historical fun facts, but it ends here and now….

Orthodontics vs. Implantology

So the question is when we have spacing between our teeth, we only have the choice between invisible orthodontics and implantology in one case: when there is a lack of space in the dental arch caused by crowded teeth and the gap is of limited width.

Pro Implantology:

A /Quick surgery and final prosthesis within months or even immediate, when we load the implant with a temporary crown right after surgery.

Contro Implantology:

A /You have to go through surgery with anesthesia antibiotics and all.

B / It is not a real root, but a screw with a crown, and does not react as a natural tooth

C / You do not align the rest of your teeth and you keep the crowding of your teeth and less aesthetic smile

Pro- Orthodontics

A / An orthodontic treatment will contemporarily resolve and redistribute spacing and align your teeth to create a beautiful smile.

B /The tooth that has filled the gap is natural

C /At studio Moll we use the most advanced invisible aligners Invisalign so nobody notices you are correcting your smile.

Contro Orthodontics

D/More time consuming than implant surgery with immediate loading of the implant.
